Privacy Policy

Aside is built to keep what you record to yourself. It collects no data, has no account, and doesn’t track you.

What stays on your device

Your recordings, live and refined transcripts, summaries, projects, hotwords and settings are stored only on your Mac or iPhone, inside Aside’s own app storage. They are never uploaded to us or anyone else.

• Live transcription uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition.
• Refine runs a speech-recognition model on your device.
• Summaries and Rewind recaps use Apple Intelligence on your device.

What we collect

Nothing. Aside has no analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party SDKs, and we don’t receive your recordings, transcripts or any information about how you use the app.

When Aside uses the network

Aside only goes online to download the models it needs:

• The Refine model and a small voice-detection model, downloaded once from Hugging Face or ModelScope the first time you refine. Like any website, those services receive your IP address when serving the files, under their own privacy policies. Nothing about you or your recordings is sent.
• Speech-recognition assets for live transcription, which your system downloads from Apple.

Permissions

Aside asks for the microphone to record your voice and, on Mac, for system audio recording to capture what your Mac plays. Audio is used only to make your recording and transcript on your device. You can change these permissions at any time in System Settings or Settings.

Information from Apple

If you choose to share crash reports and app analytics with developers in your device settings, Apple may provide us with anonymous, aggregated information such as crash logs. It doesn’t identify you and doesn’t include your recordings or transcripts. If you test Aside through TestFlight, feedback you choose to send is shared with us.

Deleting your data

Delete recordings in the app at any time. On iPhone, deleting Aside removes everything it stored; on Mac, its data stays in your Library folder until you remove it. Because we don’t hold any of your data, there’s nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children

Aside doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
