While you’re recording, press Rewind (or its shortcut on Mac, ⌃⌥⌘W by default) to see what was said in the last 1, 2 or 5 minutes. Drag the slider to change how far back it looks; Aside remembers your choice for the rest of that recording. Rewind becomes available once the recording is at least a minute long.

Recaps in Rewind and summaries after recording use Apple Intelligence on your device. Check that your Mac or iPhone supports Apple Intelligence and that it’s turned on in System Settings. It isn’t available in every country or region. Without it, Rewind still highlights what was said, and everything else works as usual.

Refine re-transcribes a finished recording with a more accurate on-device model, then lets you switch between the live and refined transcripts. The model (about 1 GB) downloads once, the first time you refine, and stays on your device. On iPhone, keep Aside open while it downloads or refines; refining needs about 1.5 GB of free memory, which recent iPhones have.

Put recordings into a project and add the project’s names, product names or course terms as hotwords. Refine then spells them your way. Live transcription isn’t affected.

Aside needs permission to record system audio. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording and turn Aside on, then start a new recording. You can also turn the microphone or system audio off for a recording from the recording bar.

Yes. On iPhone, Aside keeps recording and transcribing while the screen is locked or you’re in another app. The timer shows in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen, where you can also stop recording. If live transcription pauses in the background, it catches up from the recording when you come back.

Live transcription supports English and Chinese; you can switch the language before or during a recording. Refine detects the language on its own, including mixed English and Chinese.

Recordings, transcripts and summaries are stored only on your device, inside Aside’s own app storage. Use Share or Export to save a transcript as plain text or Markdown. On iPhone, deleting Aside also deletes its recordings, so export anything you want to keep first.

Swipe left on it in the library on iPhone, or right-click it on Mac, and choose Delete. You have a few seconds to undo. The refine model can be removed in Settings.
